Breakwater will be offering an intensive academic program in Reading, Writing, and Executive Functioning coaching for students between the ages of seven and twelve. The Summer Institute will have two three-week sessions that will meet Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings with the opportunity for students to join Breakwater Creative Arts in the afternoon. All three areas will be offered in a small-group format (2-4 students), and student groupings will be based on academic and/or age-appropriate needs determined by the program administrators. The Reading program will be Orton-Gillingham focused. The Writing program will focus on student-specific areas of need including sentence and paragraph development, organization of ideas, use of Kidspiration/Inspiration software, and creative writing. Executive Functioning (EF) will focus on planning and organization skills, age-appropriate study skills, and improving working memory and sustained attention.
