Breakwater K-5 Daily Schedule
Our daily schedule in Kindergarten through 5th grade provides the structure that is such an important part of young children’s lives, while also allowing enough flexibility and variation to meet the diverse demands of our curriculum:
- 8:00 to 8:20 Students arrive for the day and play outside on the playground (weather permitting). Parents are welcome to either drop their children off at the gate or walk them to their classroom at 8:20. A bell is rung at 8:20, students line up by classroom, and the most orderly classrooms are selected to enter school first.
- 8:20 Morning Meeting begins in each child’s classroom, followed by the first activity on the day's schedule. Each class has a regular weekly schedule of subjects, however this schedule is different for each teacher and is distributed to class parents early in the school year. Most class activities last between 30 and 60 minutes.
- 12:00 Dismissal time for Kindergarten students who have enrolled for only half the day.
- 12:00 Lunch. Students eat lunch in their own or an adjacent classroom. Teachers often arrange lunch and snack groups to ensure that each student spends some time with all others in the class. Lunch also serves as an opportunity to socialize with others in the same grade who are not normally in the same classroom. Parents may also sign their children up for Hot Lunch.
- 12:20 Recess. Students have recess outside if weather allows, or in either the multipurpose building or their classroom if it is too wet or too cold outside.
- 12:40 Afternoon activities begin - schedules are different for each teacher.
- 3:00 Students are dismissed from our outdoor playground (weather permitting). Those staying for Aftercare are escorted to The Dan.
