Breakwater Alumna Receives Philanthropy Scholarship

Big congratulations goes out to Rachel Friedman, Breakwater alumna and winner of the Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy Scholarship.

Breakwater was thrilled to nominate Rachel for this award recognizing her work in creating Perform for a Cure, a variety show that has raised over $30,000 for the Cancer Community Center in South Portland and the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. Rachel was in Grade 4 at Breakwater when she first began this annual event.

Breakwater celebrated Rachel's award at our October 16 All-School Meeting. "Your support means so much to me" Rachel said to the Breakwater students gathered in the Jessie Auditorium to show their appreciation for her hard work, "Remember, you can change things too!" This Friday on National Philanthropy Day, Rachel will be formally presented with her award in Vermont.
