Third and Fourth Graders Celebrate Poetry
A collection of poems by Mr. Fisher and Ms. Bullett's Third and Fourth Grade students.
Twisting and turning
the dew covered grass
with flowers dancing out to me.
By Nami
In the silence of blood
The heart pumping
Muffled
Inside the deep nest of flesh, protected
An egg
Layers of tissue paper
Folding back from the center
Something is in there
An angel
A devil
A beautiful creature with diamonds for eyes
We are afraid in the crimson quiet
The egg
Cracks
By Annabelle
The river flows, the ice shifting
The sky looks like the flag of Spain
It’s sunrise.
The ice looks like animals in the water,
crocodiles, birds, and fish
sitting still in the tranquil water.
The mountains
look like ancient palaces in the clouds.
This is Alaska.
By Skyler
The jagged rock
Lay in front of a grey aurora
A wrecked palace
in the ashes of hope
You cringe in pain
as the blood
trickles down your leg
A bad dream
that will not end.
Then Silence
By Brandon
It’s wavy, squiggling,
moving like the ocean
I touch it and my hand sinks into it.
It feels cold, like an ice cube.
I feel a cool wind
blowing on my face.
It is blue and purple
and peaceful.
By Dorrie
As the eastern clouds
bubble and shift
a gleam of lemony moonlight
shines on Taos Pueblo.
The neighborhood stray
he barks in pain
as he steps on a ridge
in the clay floor
then disappears
behind the shadow
of a chef’s dark doorway.
Then came the gobbling
and munching
as rotten, wet bread
is gladly eaten
through his long throat.
By Emma
Dancing on the tree tops
like a platform in the sky
With the pure sunrise air
The sound of whistling winds
And I am there.
By Emily
The dogs sit poorly in the shade
while one stands up barking.
“Where am I?
What am I doing here?”
to all the others.
Now standing up
on its back legs
pawing at the grass
the others lay on their bellies
falling asleep in peace.
By Katherine
I am looking down
Down into this pit of cool, swirling, shining water
I take a sip.
It has the sweetest
most unexplainable taste.
I see a splash
a plunk.
More after more after more hitting the delicious water.
They seem to have faces.
The extraordinary silver faces
keep hitting the water.
By Henry
Spider webs winding themselves
all over the fluffy white seeds
bending in the wind.
Seeds flow away.
What if I, or maybe you
become one
of these beautiful seeds?
We would flow
we would see as we travel
never falling
never slowing down
always flying.
But then we shall land
right where we started.
Our trip is over.
We grow
we stand
we love.
By Sabrina
I was walking on the sidewalk
I saw a dog
It was looking at me with longing eyes
I saw a tag in its ear
I took the dog and brought him home.
By Eliza
A sun surrounded
by glistening water.
The sun’s core is full
of beautiful flowers
and rocks that seem to be shaped.
The water is surrounded by plants
but these plants are all colors
and sizes.
This garden is no ordinary garden.
If you use your imagination
you can see what I see.
I see a sun.
I see a bird head.
The Japanese garden.
By Kendra
Hidden in my own world
full of life
waiting to be found.
The sun gazing in
with its golden rays
of light
looking around
peering
exploring.
By Josh
I look over the fence
I see a pony running
My pony stops and looks around
Slowly I reach for an apple
A raindrop runs down
My pony Sugar runs over
I give it to him
He chomps
I get on his back
I say, “Canter.”
He lunges forward
I hold on to his flowing mane
Rain runs against my face
I kiss my pony
He is mine
By Sidara
Along this road, is there a haunted cave?
A forest that has animals we’ve never seen before?
Is this a road that leads to nowhere?
I wish I could know,
But it’s a mystery to solve.

Dream
So many
colors
flashing past
can’t count
don’t know
where
to go
miles of
nothing
I’m
turning back
falling behind
darkness
closing in
stars
blinking winking
think I’m
possessed
not sure
going crazy
world is
stopping
but can’t
stop now
just keep on
going
space is
time
and
time is
space
can’t tell
the difference
don’t’ know what to
think
or when to think it,
what to say
or why to say it
stopping
falling
heartbeats
too fast to
count
darkness
spinning
see
light ahead
hope lifts my
heart

Light & Dark
The dark is very bright
when you have a golden
heart
Though the light is so very
dark when sadness
creeps in and blackens
your poor defenseless soul
But making someone smile
Makes others smile
As happiness spreads
So as sometimes you
May see someone
Drowning in sorrow
Show your teeth in the
Good kind way of life
By Maddie
I dreamed I was a cat
In an old lady’s house
Playing with yarn
Warmly
By Jeremy
There once was a ray named Tay
Who had a sister named Day
Along came a dog
It looked like a hog
And frightened the rays away
