Applying to Breakwater

Breakwater School welcomes families who value education and childhood equally. The Breakwater community supports young learners as they build upon their capabilities and curiosities and grow into intelligent, conscientious world citizens. The application process begins in mid-October and continues throughout the spring. Applications for our first round of admissions are due by February 15th. After this date, applications are accepted on a rolling basis and considered as places are available.

The Application Process

The Admissions Process at Breakwater adheres to the National Association of Independent Schools' standards for confidentiality and includes the following:

  • Parent Tour
  • Application and Application Fee of $45
  • Parent Questionnaire Form
  • Preschool Readiness Form (for three year-olds)
  • Current Teacher Survey
  • Photocopy of current and previous year reports, report cards, and other assessments
  • Two Student Visits (for four year-olds and older; Breakwater may waive second visit)
  • A conversation between Breakwater and current teacher at sending school via telephone or school visit (Breakwater may waive this requirement)

Upon completion of the steps above, the Admissions Committee will meet to review the applicant’s file. Admissions decisions are made in compliance with local, federal, and state nondiscrimination laws and regulations without regard to race, gender, color, religion, physical or mental disability, ancestry, sexual orientation or national origin. Spaces available depend on the number of children reenrolling, and an effort is made to maintain a balance in all classrooms.
